Professor Tiong Ghee Teoh, an obstetrician/gynecologist, and Dr. Johanna Bray, an anesthesiologist, were both consultants for the team responsible for the royal deliveries. The entire team included 23 professionals. Goodness! Professor Teoh explained:

I was back-up to Guy Thorpe-Beeston [who delivered the prince and princess].”

Dr. Bray said:

We weren’t actually at the birth but were behind the scenes. We were all on call for three months – my husband did the childcare for three months! You never know when you need to be called. You need to be in town and available. If you are at a party you need to have your car keys at the ready. No drinking!”

Now that’s dedication right there!

The team reportedly included two obstetricians, three midwives, three anesthetists, four surgical staff, two special care baby-unit staff, four pediatricians, one lab technician (in case of blood tests and the like) and three to four managers. Dr. Bray said:

There were about 20 of us that would regularly meet to discuss things.”

Professor Teoh said:

We had a huge team. Anything that could possibly go wrong, we had a team of people behind each specialty. Everyone was sworn to secrecy.”

Professor Teoh said this about Kate’s reaction to speaking with them:

[The Duchess] was very appreciative. She said there were a lot more people behind the scenes than she realized.”

Luckily for everyone, however, there were no complications with the actual delivery. Professor Teoh said:

She was a fit young woman, and that’s the most important thing. At the end of the day you want to deliver a healthy, happy baby to a healthy, happy mother – and that’s what happened.”

So true!
